ADDIE Model and Mind Map

Analyze

Description: At this phase you examine the instructional problem to identify all training needs and build a plan.

Action steps:

  • Ask questions:

    • why (benefits, learning outcomes)

    • for whom (existing skills, learning constraints, specific learning objectives)

    • where (environment, delivery options)

    • by who (facilitator training, professional development needs)

    • by when (general timeline for deliverables)

    • how to measure outcomes (assessments)

  • Answer questions

  • Meet with decision makers for feedback and reflection

  • Iterate.

  • Move to next phase formally after sign-off of plan.

Design

Description: Transform analysis into an overview of the course design, ordering objectives, content (SME), and lesson flow planning according to mode of delivery.

Action steps:

  • Storyboard course structure and lesson flow within realistic time constraints

  • Determine engagement needs (images, video, interactives), costs, and time

  • Define implementation and training, administration, maintenance

  • Define assessments, evaluation, and reporting

  • Rigorous copy edit of objectives and content, consider bias & sensitivity feedback

  • Iterate.

  • Move to next phase formally after sign-off of design plan.

Development

Description: Guided by storyboard create, detail, and polish course elements

Action steps:

  • Set timeline for deliverables

  • Consider upload to sandbox environment for rigorous QA testing.

  • Gather project review feedback-are learning objectives achieved

  • Iterate.

  • Move to next phase formally after sign-off of element design and functionality

Implementation

Description: Course goes live in LMS for end-user testing

Action steps:

  • Set delivery and enrollment options

  • Test system for feedback collection

  • Consider pilot courses

  • Train the facilitators (course curriculum, learning outcomes, LMS interaction, testing and reports)

  • Train learners to navigate learning environment and course

  • Gather feedback and iterate.

  • Sign-off to move to full course release.

Course is live.

Evaluation

Description: Develop evaluation report for the course that may improve the process for the next course.

Action steps:

  • Feedback and iteration applied through all phases

  • Formative assessments at each stage

  • Summative assessments made by QA testers and User feedback

Signing a Contract

Points of Sign-Off - Ownership

Incorporating sign-off at end of each phase ensure ownership and consensus to move forward. Sign-offs and consequences for major changes should be established. Have faith in the expertise of the team.
